Management Council

Membership is open to all Malaysians of Indian origins who are engaged in trade, commerce, industry, business and associated professions in the State of Penang. Please click the links below for details:


Application Form

An application for Membership shall be made in writing in a prescribed form shall be duly proposed by one member and seconded by another. The application shall be posted at the office of the Chamber for at least Seven clear days before such application shall be considered by the Management Council whose decision shall be final unless countermanded by the members at a General Meeting. The Council shall not be liable to assign any reason for its decision.

The Application Form should be accompanied by the Entrance Fee and the appropriate Subscription as may then in force vide Clause 7(a) and 7(b).

A rejected application may not be again proposed for admission in accordance with Rule 6(a) until the lapse of 6 months from the date of the rejection of such an application.

In order to exercise voting rights at any General Meetings, the member concerned should have at least six (6) months (from the date of approval) membership of the Chamber prior to such meetings. If the members membership is for less than 6 months they shall be classified as no-voting members only.

Membership Type

 Ordinary Member
Any Proprietor, Firm or Company having registered and controlled by a majority of persons of Indian Ancestry carrying on Trade, Commerce, Industry, Professional Services and Associated Profession in the State of Penang Shall be eligible as prescribed by these rules.

Associate Member
Any person, firm, company, or corporation in the Northern States of West Malaysia and in the State of Penang who is not eligible to be an Ordinary member may be admitted as an Associate Member.

Affiliate Member
Any Trade Association representing Indians operating in the Northern States of West Malaysia and in the State of Penang may be admitted as an Affiliate Member.

Associate Member and Affiliate Member shall enjoy all the benefits of Membership of the Chamber but shall not vote as meetings of the Chamber or serve in the Management Council except that they may be invited to sit as observers or as advisors of the Council.


Entrance Fee and Subscription

Entrance Fee
Entrance Fee for an Ordinary Member or an Associate Member or an Affiliate Member shall be RM 250.00

Subscription
The Annual Subscription for an Ordinary Member shall be RM 200.00 per annum, for an Associate Member RM 120.00 per annum and for an Affiliate Member be RM 240.00 per annum.

The Annual Subscription shall become due and payable on the 1st day of January each year.

All members are entitled to the use of the following facilities provided by the Chamber and shall be required to abide by the rules and bye-laws of the Chamber.

The Chamber provides various services to members such as:

  • Up-to-date information on government policies, incentives, legislations and procedures

  • Commercial and economic intelligence

  • Up-to-date information on government policies, incentives, legislations and procedures

  • Trade Information

  • Business contacts

  • Guidance and advice on matters such as customs, port, trade and industry regulations etc.

  • Assistance to participate in trade fairs and trade missions

  • Facilities to meet and resolve common issues and problems

  • Participation Seminars, forums, workshops, dialogue sessions, etc.
